In 1989, starting as a Single Proprietorship, Engr. Elias S. Libutaque and his wife Jessica founded EJ Engineering Enterprises after their initials "E" and "J"

Mr. Libutaque started his career in Tool and Manufacturing Engineering at the Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC) right after graduating BS Mechanical Engineering at University of the Philippines, Diliman in 1975. At MIRDC, he met and later on married Jessica, a Metallurgical Engineer graduate from Mapua, specializing in foundry operations and materials testing. The working experience of the couple helped a lot in establishing and managing their business later on.

To enhance his management skills, Mr. Libutaque later on took up and completed a Masteral degree in Business Administration at the same Institution in 1984, while at the same time working at the manufacturing plant of OTIS Elevator Company.

In 1986, due to the unstable political situation in the Philippines, OTIS left the country and entrusted its business of maintaining and marketing of elevators and escalators in the country to its senior managers, which included Mr. Libutaque. They formed a new company SITO to perform this function. It was during this period that Mr. Libutaque was able to develop his management skills which were of great help when he and his wife decided to start their own business in 1989.

One episode in Mr. Libutaque's life lead to the establishment of EJ Engineering. In the early part of 1988, he met his friend who was working as a maintenance manager of a bottling firm. During their conversation, his friend told him about some of his problems at work especially the long lead time it takes for the parts ordered from abroad to arrive in the country. From his vast technical experience, Mr. Libutaque knew that he could develop them utilizing the technical services offered by MIRDC for those doing this kind of work. He told his friend that he can develop and provide him the parts in a shorter time than the lead time required for ordering these parts abroad. He was given some of these parts which indeed he was able to develop at a shorter time and at a cheaper cost than the imported parts. He also realized that since different bottling firms use similar machines, he had a wide user of these parts. His potential clients are the numerous bottling plants scattered all over the country.

Upon consultation with his wife, they established EJ Engineering Enterprises, a small firm engaged in the development of stainless steel bottling parts and finishing works in escalators and elevators.

Through the years and through a lot of hard work, EJ Engineering Enterprises became EJ Metals and Allied Products, Inc. in 1993 to meet the greater demands of the business.
